The goal of the Visual Poetry Group is to develop a personal language through the use of color. We maintain that visual poetry is to art as poetry is to literature.
Our abstract paintings reflect our emotional responses to life and demand a different manner of seeing just as poetry demands a different manner of reading.
These paintings require the viewer to engage on an emotional and intuitive level. Through the language of color, we strive to make sense of the world.
"The things that you cannot remember
come back to you as art
to help and compensate
the endless stretching of the heart"

GROUP HISTORY
In 2003, the internationally renowned painter, Alice Teichert, taught a course in Peterborough. This was the catalyst that led to the formation of the Visual Poetry Group. Their work has been shown extensively in communities including Port Hope, Peterborough, Port Perry, Clarington/Bowmanville and Toronto.
Although group members do not paint together, they use monthly
meetings for the exchange of ideas and critiques of recent work.
"Seeing through ten sets of eyes" brings fresh perspectives, energy and motivation to each painter. Although influenced by others' opinions, members also appreciate the freedom to celebrate their own individuality. Laughter and tenacity, as well as a shared sense of artistic purpose, bind the members together.
